Starting with the 2024-2025 scholastic season, US Chess will need to hire proportionately more tournament directors than in previous years to comply with the new scholastic regulation that lowers dramatically the TD-player ratios for K-6 players—in particular, for K-1 players.  When players are registered after the first 2 entry deadlines, US Chess must hire additional TDs last-minute, and they're more expensive because of higher late travel costs.  To minimize those disproportionately higher expenses, and to offset the dramatic rise of site expenses since 2022 more generally, US Chess needs to move up the first 2 entry deadlines, raise the first entry fee significantly, and raise the latter 3 entry fees dramatically.  Without these changes, US Chess could not honor its primary financial commitment to the scholastic community: keeping the first entry fee as low as possible, while also covering tournament expenses.
